Ivona Tau is a new media artist and researcher working with Artificial Intelligence. With a background in photography and a PhD in Computer Vision, her practice bridges the technical and the emotional. She builds custom generative systems— training neural networks on curated datasets drawn from personal archives —to explore the boundaries between memory, nature, and synthetic perception. Tau’s process is deeply hands-on and experimental. She combines algorithmic training with aesthetic intuition, using models such as StyleGAN2 to create works that are guided but never fully controlled. Each piece emerges as a singular iteration from a system designed to produce infinite variation. Through this interplay of randomness and precision, her visuals evoke a sense of contemplation—inviting viewers to wander through imagined landscapes shaped by both data and emotion. Ivona’s prompts and images are featured in Spells Volume 2.
