Grit Wolany is a freelance Art Director and AI Scout at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). She studied Communication Design in Hamburg and has worked with renowned agencies in Germany and Switzerland. After years in the industry, she returned to academia in 2021 to pursue a Master’s in Design at ZHdK, where she focused on the role of AI in the creative industries. What began as trend and design research has evolved into an exploratory artistic practice at the intersection of generative AI and visual poetry. Embracing the unexpected and the accidental as creative collaborators, she explores how machines can act as partners in the design process. By relinquishing full control and engaging with algorithmic logic, her practice embraces unpredictability as a vital force in the act of making—transforming design into a shared dialogue between human intuition and machine suggestion. Grit’s prompts and images are featured in Spells Volume 2.
